Penny Nunn

Pastor

I have always had a heart for Christ. I grew up in the Catholic Church, attending Catholic school from kindergarten through graduation. I thought about becoming a nun and now I am one, only it is now my last name, and I am in the United Methodist Church.

Beginning in third grade, I began serving as liturgist for school masses and I was diligent in attending on my class’s morning as well as Sunday mornings. When we had a choir, I was in it.

I grew up in Sarnia, Ontario Canada. Other than my children, all my family members live in Canada. I have three grown children and five grandchildren who are all very important to me. I spend a lot of time on the road so that I can spend time with them.

I have a secondary school teaching degree with a major in English and a minor in Communication and Theater from Saginaw Valley State University. I am a licensed Local Pastor having attended and completed Course of Study at Methodist Theological School in Ohio. I have served on my District’s Lay Ministry team during which I helped coordinate and facilitate several adult and youth classes. I have also represented my District as part of the Fellowship of Local Pastors and Associate Members.

Before entering ministry, I was employed fulltime for ten years by Society of St. Vincent de Paul and Catholic Youth Organization serving as Program Coordinator for four camp facilities. I was responsible for rentals, retreats, outdoor education and food service.

At my home church, Lexington UMC, I served as youth leader, Sunday school teacher and on the missions committee. In the church nursery and on the mission committee, I met my two best friends; we still have a “birthday” meeting every year.

In addition to the above undertakings, I have also served as a Girl Scout leader and coached several baseball and softball teams in Little League and church league.

My theology is to be a true follower of the Gospel and to live out the New Commandment: to love God and love others as myself. “Me three.” I am an avid John Wesley fan; I appreciate all his teachings and admire his accomplishments. In the future, I pray I can serve Christ by loving boldly, serving joyfully and leading courageously. I hope to further commit myself to Christ by pursuing Associate Membership in the United Methodist Church.
